There are few things in life better than warm apple crisp with vanilla bean ice cream on a crisp fall day. I love this recipe because it is so simple and it isn’t too sweet or made with oats. It really just brings out the flavors of the apples.
Bake Time: 40 minutes at 350 degrees
Serves: 6
Ingredients:
4 cups of peeled and sliced apples (we use Johnathon or Cortland)
Butter to butter the baking dish
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup water
3/4 cup sifted flour
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
Vanilla bean ice cream to serve with
Directions:
Place 4 cups of peeled and sliced apples in a buttered 10” x 6” x 2” baking dish. Sprinkle with 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp salt, and 1/4 cup water. Rub together 3/4 cup sifted flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup butter. Drop mixture over apples. Bake. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
I got this from a very old General Mills Cookbook. I can’t even tell you what year because it is falling apart from this recipe being made all the time.

I love the tidbit about the cook book falling apart! It shows that this has been a tradition as you have been cooking the pie as you grew up! Although I missed out on the apple picking part this year, I completely agree with everything you have said and will never grow tired of the taste and smell of this pie!
