Lets face it pizza is just one of those foods that is perfect no matter what is on it, what time a day it is and no matter what kind of mood your in. My absolute favorite thing to make in the summertime is pizza on the grill. I love grilling, I love making pizza, so grilling pizza is a weekly occurrence. When I first started making pizza on the grill I wasn’t sure if I had to purchase a special stone, or rack and a lot of research went into it. Im here to tell you how easy it is to make pizza on the grill. Im going to give you instructions on how to make my favorite kind of pizza, sweet Italian sausage and ricotta.
Here are the necessary ingredients:
Pizza dough (room temperature)
Flour for the counter
Four Cheese Blend
Sweet Italian Sausage
Grill Non-Stick Spray
Here are the necessary tools:
First, turn the grill on, I suggest medium to low heat. Then, pour some flour onto the counter and spread it into a thin layer so that you can place your pizza dough onto the counter and have it not stick to the counter. Then, put some flour onto the rolling pin and start rolling out that dough into a big circle. (It is easier to roll out dough that is room temperature because it actually stays rolled out and doesn’t snap back in) While you are rolling the dough and getting the dough ready you should be cooking the sweet Italian sausages on the stove (if that is your topping of choice). Make sure that you are cooking the sausage all the way through because when you put the pizza on the grill later it is just to melt everything and not cook the sausage.
Then, bring your dough that is in a big circle out to the grill, spray the grill with Non-Stick spray like PAM, and place the crust onto the grill and close the lid.Yes, that’s right you can place the dough directly onto the grill and not worry about anything! Let the crust cook for a few minutes, until lightly browned, on that side and then flip it over, let it grill for about half the time on that side. The side that cooked half the side will be the bottom of the pizza, this is so that when you go to cook it and have all of the ingredients melt, the bottom does not get burnt.
Bring the crust back inside and start spreading the sauce around on the crust, and then sprinkle the four cheese shredded blend. Next place the rest of your ingredients onto the pizza, in this case it is the ricotta and sausages. I like to spoon big chunks of ricotta sporadically onto the pizza so that when they melt they expand. (my mouth is watering as I type this)
Once you have the pizza on the grill keep it on low to medium heat for about 7-10 minutes or until all of the cheese is melted and it looks like the pizza is done. Take it off the grill, let it cool for about 7 minute, if you can wait that long, and enjoy!
